The Jefferson Awards are known as “an American Nobel Prize for public service.” Since its founding in 1972 by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Sam Beard, and Senator Robert Taft Jr., the Jefferson Awards has honored individuals for outstanding public service. The award is for an “unsung hero,” someone who has undertaken a project that significantly impacts the community. Individuals who have been nominated in the past may be nominated again, as long as their service is continuing. To make a nomination, go to toledoblade.com/jeffersonawards and click on the Nominations button. The deadline for submission is February 26. Judges for this year’s Jefferson Awards are Micheal Alexander, Sr., Labor Engagement Liaison United Way of Greater Toledo; Suzette Cowell, CEO Toledo Urban Federal Credit Union; Jason Kucsma, Executive Director/Fiscal Officer Toledo Lucas County Public Library; Wendy Pestrue, President & CEO United Way of Greater Toledo; and Tina Skeldon Wozniak, President of the Board of Lucas County Commissioners.
