Over 100 years ago, Beach House Family Shelter began offering shelter to mothers with children and single women in Toledo. In 1982, the program expanded to include emergency shelters and services for intact families, including fathers and single-parent fathers with children. In 2016, Beach House Inc. merged with F.O.C.U.S. to create Leading Families Home. Today, it is one of only three family shelters in northwest Ohio.
Leading Families Home is proud to announce the grand opening of Beach House Ashland, the organization’s new overflow emergency family shelter. The shelter will allow Leading Families Home to serve up to 75 additional individuals facing homelessness in Lucas County.
After a long process of construction and renovations that began in 2020, the shelter is now officially ready to welcome families in need. The opening of Beach House Ashland is another step the organization is taking to address the homelessness crisis. This facility will greatly impact Toledo-area families seeking emergency shelter as they transition from homelessness to permanent housing in Northwest Ohio.
Leading Families Home’s mission is to help families achieve independence and economic stability through life-changing resources, including mental wellness, education, employment services, and safe, affordable, sustainable housing. Leading Families Home gives families a place to call “home” until they’ve gotten their feet on the ground.
The grand opening of Beach House Ashland will be marked by a special ribbon-cutting ceremony to represent the tremendous step forward Leading Families Home is taking in addressing homelessness and creating lasting change in Lucas County. Attendees will have the opportunity to tour the new facility and learn more about the organization’s mission.
