About us

In 1977 Richard Cotner and his son Steven saw a need in their community to help local businesses combat a growing employee theft problem. As licensed investigators Dick and Steve knew they had not only the expertise but the creativity needed to stop ongoing theft, prevent new theft and save companies hundreds of thousands of dollars. This was the beginning of Corporate Intelligence Consultants (CIC). As more businesses turned to the Cotners for advice and counsel, Dick and Steve added to their team of highly qualified, experienced investigators. Retired police officers, heads of security, IRS agents, and former drug agents quickly became the cohesive team the community came to rely on. As company’s concerns moved from employee theft and security, to drugs in the workplace, workers’ comp fraud and embezzlement, the team would hear over and over from business owners the same sentiment: if only I had known before I hired this person what he was like. This thinking lead to the development of CIC’s Pre- Employment Screening division in 1980. Today, after 40 plus years of listening to client's needs, evolving corporate cultures, and ever-changing laws, CIC has developed an all-encompassing service for a company's security, sound hiring, strike management, termination and workers' compensation programs.
