At its regular meeting at 4:00 p.m. today, Toledo City Council is expected to vote on Ordinance 182-18 which would authorize the sale of $35 million in water system revenue bonds for financing of various capital improvements to Toledo’s water supply, storage and distribution systems. The projects are part of the city’s overall capital improvement plan and in response to mandates from both the Ohio EPA and U.S. EPA. Council will also likely vote on Ordinance 184-18 which would authorize $4,175,000 for the purchase of vehicles and equipment for the Department of Public Utilities, and Ordinance 220-18 which would appropriate $800,000 in bond proceeds for power improvements at the Collins Park Water Treatment Plant and High Service Pump Station. Council is also expected to vote on the following legislation: • Ordinance 204-18 which would extend the Downtown Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA) hours of operation to 1:00 a.m. daily. DORA’s current hours of operation are 12:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. daily. The proposed change comes at the request of participating DORA establishments for the benefit of increased economic activity downtown. • Ordinance 210-18 which would approve $135,000 for professional building plan review services with vendor SAFEbuilt. The Division of Building Inspection currently has an open position for a plans examiner, but the position has not yet been filled. • Ordinance 221-18 which would approve $800,000 in capital improvement funds for closure work activities at the former 26 acre Unitcast Foundry site at 1414 East Broadway Street currently owned by the city. The funding would help the city comply with a tentative agreement with the Ohio EPA to complete closure activities by the end of next year. Ordinance 209-18, which would approve $30,000 for professional services on behalf of City Council for advice concerning negotiations to develop a regional water agreement, is expected to be referred to Council’s Water Quality & Sustainability Committee. A hearing date has not been scheduled. All Council meetings are held in Council Chambers on the first floor of One Government Center, located on Jackson Boulevard in downtown Toledo.
