At its regular meeting scheduled for 4:00 p.m. today, Toledo City Council is expected to vote on Ordinance 16-18 which would make changes to regulations regarding temporary signage, including the following: • Prohibiting use of pennants, search lights, twirling signs, sandwich board signs, sidewalk or curb signs, attached balloons, air or gas filled figures, and feather flags. Currently, pennants are allowed under certain circumstances for six months. The others are currently allowed for opening of new businesses in commercial or industrial zoning for fifteen days, or for special events. • Changing the allowable time for use of flags and banners, which are permitted in regional commercial and industrial zoning, from six months to thirty consecutive days. Only one permit would be allowed per year per premise. Exemptions for temporary signage included in a separate section of Toledo code will remain unchanged. This section includes signage for elections and campaigns, real estate, special events at churches or schools, incidental signage such as “open signs”, and others. Council is also likely to vote on Ordinance 17-18 which would approve a special use permit for Glass City Alternatives, LLC’s plan to establish a medical marijuana dispensary at a vacant building located at 3203 and 3209 West Sylvania Avenue. The company is also awaiting approval of its state dispensary application for the site. Under the Ohio Medical Marijuana Control Program, up to two dispensary sites are permitted in Lucas County. All Council meetings are held in Council Chambers on the first floor of One Government Center, located on Jackson Boulevard in downtown Toledo.
