At its regular meeting at 4:00 p.m. today, Toledo City Council is expected to vote on Ordinance 375-17 which would authorize $100,000 from the Water Replacement Fund for legal services from attorney Mark Wallach with firm Thacker Robinson Zinz, LPA. Mr. Wallach would represent the City in negotiations with its water contract customer jurisdictions to create a regional water authority. Consultant Eric Rothstein with the Galardi Rothstein Group, who was contracted by the Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce due to his significant experience in developing regional water authorities, is facilitating official discussions to form an authority. Mr. Rothstein will be updating Council’s Water Quality, Streets and Infrastructure Committee on these discussions on Monday, September 18 at 1:00 p.m. He will also be the featured presenter at the Chamber’s Focus on Business luncheon on Wednesday, September 20, beginning at Noon. Other items expected to be voted on by Council include: • Ordinance 215-17 which would authorize a five-year lease agreement with the State of Ohio for municipal office space in One Government Center. The Ohio General Assembly and City Council previously approved transfer of ownership of the building to the City. However according to the City, negotiations to finalize the transfer are at an impasse over disagreements about terms for addressing deferred maintenance. • Ordinance 313-17 which would authorize $2.5 million from the Street Construction Maintenance and Repair Fund for the resurfacing and repair of Bancroft Street between Auburn Avenue and Parkside Boulevard. • Ordinance 348-17 which would authorize the conveyance of city-owned properties to the Ohio Department of Transportation for the widening and improvement of portions of I-75. The properties include numerous locations along I-75 between the Maumee River and the I-75/I-475 split that will be used for sound walls, access easements, and various infrastructure. • Two ordinances that would approve Mayor Paula Hicks-Hudson’s nominations for two board appointments. Ordinance 368-17 would appoint John Escobar to the Toledo Plan Commission, and Ordinance 369-17 would appoint Dr. Richard Fernandez to the Toledo-Lucas County Board of Health. All Council meetings, including committee hearings, are held in Council Chambers on the first floor of One Government Center, located on Jackson Boulevard in downtown Toledo.
