Toledo City Council is expected to vote tomorrow on Ordinance 283-17 which would authorize the City to accept and spend $2,400,000 in grant funding from the Ohio Development Services Agency for the resurfacing and reconstruction of portions of Chrysler Drive and Expressway Drive. The funding is part of economic development efforts aimed at retaining production at FCA’s Toledo Assembly Complex. There is a 25 percent match required from the City. The matching funds have been authorized by Council for this year in a prior ordinance. Other legislation expected to be voted on by Council include: • Ordinance 255-17 which would amend municipal code to clarify that the insurance requirements now in existence for pedicabs for hire apply to all low-speed vehicles for hire, such as golf carts and ATVs. The requirements state that a vehicle operator and owner must be insured for at least $1,000,000 for death or bodily injury caused as the result of an accident. • Resolution 270-17 encouraging Northwest Ohio’s congressional delegation to strongly oppose any federal budget cut to Amtrak service, especially reductions that end long-distance train service for Toledo. The proposed federal transportation budget would reduce Amtrak’s budget by $519 million in 2017 and $1 billion in 2018, and would eliminate the Lake Shore Limited and Capitol Limited trains serving Toledo. • A series of ordinances levying special assessments for various public service expenses in 2016 which include: o Ordinance 247-17 which would levy $17,079,222 for sprinkling, sweeping, cleaning and removing snow on municipal streets, alleys and public ways. o Ordinance 248-17 which would levy $3,617,428 for street lighting expenses outside the Downtown District. o Ordinance 249-17 which would levy $250,724 for street lighting expenses within the Downtown District. o Ordinance 250-17 which would levy $4,043,473 for controlling the blight and disease of shade trees within public rights-of-way as well as planting, maintaining, trimming and removing such trees. o Ordinance 251-17 which would levy $666,295 for surface preservation treatment on municipal streets and public ways. o Ordinance 252-17 which would authorize assessments for cutting and destroying noxious weeds on vacant properties. The properties receiving weed services are assessed individually. All Council meetings are held in Council Chambers on the first floor of One Government Center, located on Jackson Boulevard in downtown Toledo.
