Pete Emahiser, Owner of Tadmore Transportation LLC, downtown Toledo, Oh was recently nominated to share effective business practices to freight brokers in Las Vegas at the TIA/DAT Capital Resources Conference. Pete was chosen to speak with 3 other brokers out of the 13,000 brokers across the country. He spoke on the topic of "Recruiting Carriers." Tadmore is recognized by shippers, peers and carriers as being ethical and honest, fair, proactive and 100% reliable. Pete's key points included: 1. Ethical & Honorable. Tadmore pays drivers faster than the industry norm of 35ish days because we believe carriers deserve fast pay. We do what we say. Therefore, we never "accept a load" from a shipper without having an actual truck at the agreed price. Since we closely monitor market fluctuations, and have mutually respectful relationships with carriers, we have earned the right to boast 100% reliability. 2. Fair. We always pay detention, layovers and other assessorial fees regardless of whether the shipper/customer reimburses. Taking good care of drivers ensures they take good care of the freight. We treat the drivers in such a way, that you can meet them, look them in the eye, shake their hand, and say "Thank You." 3. 24/7. We believe it’s important to be easily available to drivers days, nights, and holidays. If the truck is working, so should the broker. If drivers can't get answers when they need them, complications and possibly claims occur. 4. Risk & Insurance. Minimize risk and insure the freight (not just the brokerage). Carry levels of insurance that protect the whole move (the driver (carrier), the shipper, the freight, and the brokerage). Protecting the freight and those involved in each move is proactive and preventative. Subscribe to services that notify of insurance or safety occurrences every 24 hours. Record all phone conversations and itemize rate negotiations to identify team, on-time delivery, awesomeness, etc.
