The state budget process begins every two years with a spending proposal from the Governor of Ohio. Governor Kasich unveiled his proposal for fiscal years 2018 and 2019 Monday in Columbus. The legislative language will be introduced today in the Ohio House of Representatives. The Ohio House Finance Committee is scheduled to begin hearings on the two-year plan on Wednesday. On Thursday, testimony will begin on the state transportation budget. Members of the House and Senate will spend the next several months listening to testimony and amending the plan proposed by the Governor. A final budget is expected to be approved by the legislature and sent back to the Governor’s desk for signature before the start of the new state fiscal year on July 1. Highlights from the Governor’s budget can be found at http://budget.ohio.gov/default.aspx. Members of the Chamber’s Advocacy & Public Policy team and the Government Affairs Committees are already reviewing the budget to determine the potential impact on businesses. We will be working closely with our region’s legislators and members of the Governor’s administration to advocate on your behalf.
