At its regular meeting scheduled for 4:00 p.m. today, Toledo City Council will likely vote on the following legislation: • Ordinance 351-16 which would authorize the City to acquire, purchase and sell single-family properties through the Neighborhood Stabilization Program for one year. Under the program, the Department of Neighborhoods acquires, rehabilitates and sells previously foreclosed and vacant properties to qualified buyers. • Ordinance 353-16 authorizing $75,000 for contractual services for the removal of asbestos-containing panels on the exterior of the City-owned Madison Building at 607 Madison Avenue. These panels have recently fallen from the structure and are said to be causing a public safety hazard. • Ordinance 355-16 which would vacate part of St. Bernard Drive lying south of the right-of-way line of Giant Street. This will facilitate expansion at the campus of ProMedica Toledo Hospital. The following legislation will likely be given first reading: • Ordinance 345-16 which would authorize the creation of an outdoor refreshment area under Ohio House Bill 47, which went into effect in April 2015. The new district would be located downtown and be bounded by Lafayette Street southward, Adams Street northward, Erie Street westward, and Summit Street eastward. • Ordinance 354-16 which would repeal and replace various sections of Toledo Municipal Code pertaining to the municipal income tax. The ordinance makes various amendments necessitated by changes to state law and makes corrections to language the City adopted in response to House Bill 5 reforming Ohio’s municipal tax laws. Council’s Committee on Regional Growth and Development will hold a hearing at 2:30 p.m. on Ordinance 352-16 which would authorize the City to purchase for $1.00 the eight acre property of the former Ohio Department of Transportation Garage at 1600 South Detroit Avenue. Acquisition of the property will facilitate the expansion of the nearby Schneider Field athletic grounds. Action on the ordinance at the regular session will likely be decided based on discussion at the hearing. All Council meetings are held in Council Chambers on the first floor of One Government Center, located on Jackson Boulevard in downtown Toledo.
