Susan G. Komen Northwest Ohio launches new, mobile-friendly registration sites for the Race for the Cure Events in Findlay and Toledo to meet rising local breast cancer needs TOLEDO, OH, June 6, 2016 — Susan G. Komen Northwest Ohio® has launched new registration sites for the Susan G. Komen Northwest Ohio Race for the Cure® events in Toledo and Findlay in an effort to meet the growing breast cancer needs in Northwest Ohio. For years, friends and supporters of Komen Northwest Ohio shared that the old platform was confusing and mobile registration for the Komen Northwest Ohio Race for the Cure events in Toledo and Findlay was too challenging. After seeing one third of the grant applications go unfunded in 2016, the Komen Northwest Ohio Governing Board of Directors decided it was time for an upgrade. In May 2016, the board of directors voted to make the change to the new platform. “Komen Northwest Ohio's goal is to fully fund the grants that save local lives through breast cancer assistance, research, and education,” said Michele Murnen Rice, president of the Susan G. Komen Northwest Ohio board of directors. “Our primary sources of fundraising are the Race for the Cure events and we saw a connection between the struggle to register for the Race and the unfunded grants.” Mary Westphal, executive director of Susan G. Komen Northwest Ohio, believes the new sites will bring more people to the Races in Findlay and Toledo, which will result in more life-saving research and funding. “The demand for breast cancer services in this community is larger than we can meet,” said Westphal. “Our primary goal is to help breast cancer patients and survivors live long and healthy lives. The more Komen friends we can attract to the Races, the more assistance we can provide to our 24-county service area.” The new sites for the Toledo and Findlay races feature: • Mobile responsive platforms • Straightforward registration processes • Simple multiple-person registrations • Improved social media integration • Quick access to donations for individuals and teams The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure events are Saturday, Sept. 24 in Findlay and Sunday, Sept. 25 in Toledo. Register at www.komennwohio.org. About Susan G.
